Movie Review
"Ganga Cauvery" is a love triangle featuring debutant Akshay and two model-turned-actresses Mallika Kapoor and Mahi. The story as such does not have any fresh elements, but what separates the film from the ordinary fare is the brilliant technical work done by veterans like cinematographer H.C. Venu, lyricist-music director K. Kalyan and dialogue writer B.A. Madhu.

The film, however, fails to make a big mark mainly because the narration is not up to the mark and most actors give ordinary performances. Akshay is found wanting in the emotional sequences of the film. It is only veteran actor Anant Nag who has done justice to his part.

Director Vishnukanth has taken on too many responsibilities, but fails on all counts. He seems thoroughly ill-equipped to narrate an ordinary story in an engaging manner. "Ganga Cauvery" is reduced to being an ordinary film without a soul.

Akshay plays Arjun, a fashion photographer from the picturesque Madikeri region who goes to the Himalayas to capture some photographs of nature. There he meets Ganga who belongs to a village in Uttarakhand. Arjun's interactions with Ganga leads him to promise her marriage, though he is already engaged to childhood friend Kaveri.

Arjun comes to Madikeri to seek his parents nod for marriage with Ganga, but finds that his ill father is fighting for life. And by the climax, audiences will only be relieved that the boredom has finally ended.

While Akshay is unable to show the emotional side of the character, Mahi is impressive as one of the two heroines. Mallika Kapoor just seems to be giggling in most parts.

However, H.C. Venu is brilliant behind camera and the songs shot in the foothills of the Himalayas are truly spectacular. K. Kalyan has written beautiful lyrics for the title song and "Ambara ambaradaage".

Despite its many technical high points, "Ganga Cauvery" turns out to be just another ordinary fare.

Savari Kannada Movie

Banner: Usha Kiron Movies, Arka Media
Cast: Srinagara Kitty, Raghu Mukerji, Kamilini Mukerjee, Sadhu Kokila, Pavitra Lokesh, CR Simha, Milind Gunanji, Dattatreya, Suman Ranganath
Direction: Jacob Verghese
Production: Ramoji Rao
Music: Manikanth Khadri

Media baron Ramoji Rao has been encouraging a lot of creative talent in Kannada television and to an extent in the film industry. But he has also been producing remake versions of Telugu films in Kannada under his Usha Kiron Movietone banner, some of which, like "Chithram", have been successful.
Ramoji Rao's new film "Savaari" is a remake of the Telugu hit "Gamyam".
"Gamyam", directed by a debutant Radhakrishna won lot of kudos because of the way it was narrated and its sequences which looked convincing.
"Savaari" essentially retains the finer points of the original film, but somehow, the narration in the first half is slow and dragging.
The original film had a lot of dialogues and sequences related to the Maoist problem. There is no attempt in the remake to portray these sequences in a way that they relate to Karnataka.
The Maoists are confined to a few districts of Karnataka and are not a major law and order problem in the state, unlike in Andhra Pradesh.

"Savaari" succeeds because of the twists and turns in the second half and refined performances from the major and minor artists.
The climax is the highlight of the film and the dialogues towards the end of the film are very good.
Three songs of the film have been lifted from the original Telugu version. The musical score complements the narration but it is certainly not top class.
The film starts off with a journey undertaken by Abhiram, a dejected lover in search of his beloved Janaki who has left him because of a misunderstanding. He is joined by Gaali Seena, a petty thief.

On their journey, they go through a series of experiences which bring them closer to each other. Finally, Abhiram meets Janaki after getting completely reformed and realizing that humanity is more important in life than wealth. But in the process, he loses Gaali Seena in a shootout.
Raghu Mukherjee has delivered one of the best performances in the film. Telugu actress Kamalini Mukherjee has been a common factor in the original film and its two remake versions in Tamil and Kannada. She shows her competence in this film too.
Sreenagara Kitty really needed a break and with this role as Gaali Seena. He should go places.

Avva Kannada Movie

Cast & Crew:

Banner: Pyramid Saimira LimitedÂ
Cast: Shruthi, Vijay, Smitha, Enagi Nataraj, Rangayana Raghu, Hanumakka, Master Rakesh, Arundhathi, Siddaraj KalyankarÂ
Direction: Kavitha LankeshÂ
Music: Issac

Movie Review
Avva comes as a breath of fresh air, in terms of its story content, narration and even authentic characterization. It also presents the rural milieu in a most realistic fashion, with all its crudeness, cruelty, humanity, exploitation and social discrimination.
Kavitha Lankesh has really bounced back through the film which is based on the novel written by her father Late Prof. Lankesh. Lankesh is certainly one of the best writers in Kannada literature and this novel that was written some time in the late seventies, was much appreciated for the deep insights it offered into rural life and the authentic portrayal of its characters. Obviously Kavitha who got into film direction with the film Deveeri based on her father’s short story thought of again going back to her father’s rich literary contribution to stage a comeback. Her previous film ‘Kalki’ based on a story written by the Tamil writer Kalki was a big flop.
Avva revolves around Aane Baddi Rangavaa, a fiercely independent widow who is highly protective towards Savanthri. Savanthri has already become an object of titillation for the rural folk, but she is in deep love with Byaadara Manja who belongs to a lower caste. And there are other characters like Michine Baramanna, a highly jealous trouble shooter and a teen aged boy Kariya who observes all the things that happen around him with curiosity, anguish and disgust. There is also Sanneeraiah who is a typical character that could easily be seen in every village.
While P.Lankesh chose to narrate the story through the eyes of Kariya the boy, Kavitha has taken liberties to go ahead with a straight forward narration of the story. Though she is loyal to the main plot of the novel, Kavitha has also shown some discretion and independence. Perhaps this may not go well with the people who have much liked the novel and instead may appeal to the audience who see the film without having read the novel.
The dialogues of the film written by Chandregowda are first rate, and some of the dialogues have been taken straight off the novel. The dialogues may seem a bit crude, but Kavitha has retained them because of her passion for a realistic presentation. And the folk oriented songs composed by music director Issac also bring in some relief. Award winning cameraman Madhu Ambat has captured the rural beauty at its best.
Kavitha has taken courage not to include any superficial thrills or even a fight sequence, even with action hero Vijay in the leading role. There are many abusive dialogues which have been retained in the film, and a few bold kissing sequences which made the Censors hand over an A certificate to the film. But Kavitha has placed confidence on the strength of her script and has decided to go ahead with all these sequences, without much worrying about the A certificate tag.
Shruthi comes out with a stunning performance in the role of Aane Baddi Rangavva. For a popular hero like Vijay the film offers a character of substance; something that he had been denied so far. He does not get much screen prominance like in other films, but still comes out good with a fabulous performance. New comer Smitha is a revelation and is certain to go places.
Rangayana Raghu, Arundhathi Jathkar and Enagi Nataraj have delivered superb performances as well.

PUC Kannada Movie

Banner: Abhayajyothi Cine Creations
Cast: Ramakrishna, Avinash, Vinayaprakash, Sadhu Kokila, Chetan Chandra, Harshika Poonachcha, Charisma
Direction: SR Brothers
Production: Sharana Gowda Patil
Music: Raviraj

Movie Review
When academic institutions are keeping quiet and government is not bothered to give perfect medicine to the campus love and struggle in the college days the film media – Abhay Jyothi Cine Creations has done a fine job in a neat way. Whether it is love or life the film asks the students of today is fittingly narrated for the good of all.

SR Brothers giving poor performance in 'Nanjundi' has taken the revenge by giving a pleasant surprise. Some of the scene conceiving is good, the performances are above average, songs are very well done and cinematography is another cynosure of the film 'PUC'. Please U C is the catch line for the title of the film goes OK with the making of the movie. The film could have been pruned by 15 percent would have been very interesting.

Bavish hailing from a poor family is a very bright student in the college. He is always a front runner in scoring marks. Such a bright student falls in love with Gowri daughter of a retired judge. Gowri although loves Bavish keeps her concentration on studies intact but not Bavish. In the final examination Bavish scores second class and he is not able to fulfill his promise to parents. Gowri glorious results and forging ahead in life according to her father guidelines changes the whole attitude of Bavish. He makes up his mind that love is not everything in life. Joining degree classes he shows it to the society that hard work and sincerity in profession keeps him in a good status. By the time he meets Gowri she is with a kid and husband not adjustable in her life.

Chetan Chandru has given wonderful performance in his debut. He has the right looks and physique. He is another promising youngster no doubt about it. Harshika Poornacha and Karishma not fit the heroine post. Avinash and Vinayaprakash are superb as couple.

Raviraj the student from the camp of national acclaimed director Hamsalekha has kept up the hopes. He gives three very refreshing tunes. Cinematography is adequate from Suresh Babu.

A good attempt indeed from first time producer Sharana Gowda Patil!

Ambari Kannada Movie Online

Cast: Yogish, Supritha

Director: A.P.Arjun

Producer: T.P.Siddaraju

Cinematography: Satya Hegde

Story Writer: Arjun

"Ambari" can be called a 'road film' as most of the sequences are shot on the road during a long journey undertaken by the movie's protagonists.

But "Ambari" doesn't have an entertaining narrative like Aamir Khan's 1991 hit of the same genre, "Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin". Neither does it make you think and ponder like Kamal Hassan's "Anbe Sivam" or "Mr and Mrs Iyer" that featured Rahul Bose and Konkana Sen Sharma.

Arjun has written an illogical script for the film that has unbelievable sequences like the lovers travelling to the Taj Mahal in Agra all the way from Bangalore on a bicycle! And even after making this tedious trip, the young hero does not show any sign of fatigue and is prepared to bash up a bunch of villains.

The lack of freshness in the script takes the film to lower depths in the second half. Though the first half is engaging in parts, the second half is highly predictable and lacks comic elements. This is the main reason why "Ambari" ends up as ordinary fare.

The revenge element is a take-off from Tamil films like "Sandai Kozhi".

Coming to the positive side, the highlights of "Ambari" are the songs composed by Hari Krishna and the camera work by Sathya Hegde. "Baare Baare, Taare Taare" and the title song are well composed and choreographed. Yogeesh's dialogue delivery and fight sequences may appeal to his fans and newcomer Sampreetha impresses.

The protagonist of the film is Dhanush, who leads a simple life working as a cobbler. His father is an irresponsible drunkard. Saro, a college girl, falls in love with the good-hearted Dhanush within a few meetings. Dhanush rejects Saro's overtures and her parents too are upset.

Saro finally convinces Dhanush about the sincerity of her love and he then decides to elope with her on a cycle. Saro's father, meanwhile, asks a don to find his daughter and kill Dhanush. The lovers overcome all obstacles and complete their journey of love to the Taj Mahal.

The narrative of this long journey is tedious and many of the incidents that occur during their travels fail to entertain.
